About Us

For 100 years, YWCA Boulder County has worked to eliminate racism and empower women in Boulder County and helped women and children of all ages and backgrounds thrive. Founded by community volunteers in 1922, the organization has supported generations of women and girls by tackling social issues such as housing, employment, education, and child care. Today, YWCA Boulder County provides programs such as high-quality, affordable, and flexible child care; parent education classes; and racial justice and equity programs including youth empowerment, youth and adult education, and advocacy. As an inclusive, secular nonprofit organization, we are publicly funded, not affiliated with any religious group, and welcome people of all backgrounds and genders to participate in our important work.

In 1977, YWCA Boulder County recognized the need for flexible, affordable drop-in child care and created Children’s Alley. In 2020, responding to changing community needs, we expanded our child care program, prompting a new name: Persimmon Early Learning. As a Level 4 Colorado Shines rated Early Childhood Program, Persimmon Early Learning provides a safe, nurturing, and creative space for children ages eight weeks to six years to learn and grow in newly redesigned and expanded indoor and outdoor learning areas. We offer high-quality, affordable drop-in, short-term and permanent child care options, and we are the only child care center in Boulder County offering emergency care for families with nowhere else to turn.

  • The Manager of Community Engagement and Equity reports to the CEO and will help lead the YWCA in developing and delivering direct services related to our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. In addition, this leader will build partnerships and bridges into the community to expand resources and opportunities for the families and women we serve. As member of the YWCA Boulder County, Senior Team, this individual will also bring perspective, knowledge and decision making to achieving the goals of the Strategic Plan. The Manager will be responsible to oversight of the staff and volunteers delivering services in racial justice, STEM E3, YW+A Advocates, and Reading to End Racism programming. This is a full time, hybrid, exempt position.

    • Management and evaluation of current programs, as well as development of additional programs that advance our mission, particularly in promoting racial justice

    • Overseeing STEMe3, YW+A Advocate, and other duties as assigned

    • Development and execution of refinements to introductory anti-racist training and programming

    • Development and execution of a more advanced anti-racist training and programming

    • Recruitment and oversight of anti-racist training partnerships and community trainings

    • Partner with other service agencies and community stakeholders to connect resources to women, girls and families served by the YWCA

    • Partnership with the Grants Manager to identify possible grant prospects, reporting information and collaboration in telling our story of impact

    • Budget oversight for all relevant programs

    • Research and implement best practices for equity and anti-bias education and programming related to Reading to End Racism, including new parent programming and expansion to middle-school/high school students

    • Participate in larger organization-wide fundraising events as needed

    • Have a perspective, passion and experience in anti-oppression, racial justice, and challenging structures to create greater opportunity and equity to the women and girls we serve

    • Supervisory experience required

    • Demonstrated skill in development and maintenance of partner/community relationships

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Adept at public speaking

    • Volunteer recruitment, training, and management experience

    • Must be able to manage multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment

    • Able to work occasional early mornings and late evenings

    • Connectivity and understanding of the communities we serve and women/girls of color

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area (public policy, communication, social work, etc.)

  • •Three years of experience in leading non-profit or relevant programming, preferably in the areas of racial justice

    • A high standard of customer service

  • The Development Intern reports to the Development Coordinator and provides important support to members of the Development & Marketing team. Assists with gift entries and acknowledgments, CRM updates, department mailings and events, and support for grants management. This is an on-site, part-time internship at 16 hours per week.

  • Development and Events

    With direction and guidance from the Development Coordinator:

    • assists in managing the donor database (CRM) by accurately entering, updating, and coding data as required

    • assists in processing gifts and producing donor acknowledgments by performing mail merges, completing printing, and mailing, and filing digital records

    • assists in compiling information from program and finance staff necessary for grant proposals and reports

    • assists with participant communication, volunteer management, invitations, rsvp’s, and coordination with vendors for events as needed

    Programs Data and Metrics

    • Assists with data entry from hard copy surveys as requested

  • • Strong computer skills with specific experience in Microsoft Office

    • Aptitude and desire to learn a variety of computer-based tools and software platforms

    • Detail oriented, excellent at organizing and completing multiple complex projects and tasks simultaneously

    • Ability to work independently and with a team

    • A high standard of customer service and professionalism

  • Current or completed work toward a degree in a relevant major, or equivalent professional experience.

Intern, Development

  • The Early Childhood Education Teacher reports to the Assistant Director, Persimmon Early Learning and is responsible for providing a caring and creative classroom environment. Qualified to care for ages ranging 8 weeks through 6 years. This is a Full time/Non-Exempt position at 32.5 hours per week.

    • Ensure the health and safety of the classroom


    • Implement developmentally appropriate practices through experiential, play-based curriculum, and positive guidance

    • Maintaining child assessment through COR Advantage, and parent/teacher conferences (We provide training)

Young Women+ Achievement (YW+A) Advocate

Position Start Date: Fall 2024, for 2024/2025 School Year

  • The Young Women+ Achievement (YW+A) Advocate reports to the Director of Community Engagement and Equity. They will work directly with ninth – twelfth grade BIPOC and LGBTQ+ high school students in Boulder County, helping to close the achievement gap and providing specialized support. YW+A advocates provide a space where students can build upon the strengths and resources of their community and understand the challenges, they may face in reaching their goals. YW+A provides positive youth development through programming and exposure to other organizations in Colorado. This position requires a commitment to the work and mission of YWCA Boulder County and supervision of youth. This is a part-time/exempt position 6-12 hours per week and can be performed remotely or hybrid.

    • Recruits and retain students for YW+A group at assigned area high school in Boulder County


    • Develops and maintains relationships with school staff, counselors, teachers


    • Provides tutoring and mentoring


    • Helps plan and chaperone students on college visits, field trips, volunteer, and other extra-curricular activities


    • Communicates with YW+A student families as needed


    • Adheres to all protocols of using school space, resources


    • Develops/coordinates programming and leads empowerment group meetings held at the school site, such as Life skills topics (wellness, study skills, adapting to change, issues of relevance) and College readiness/career planning based on the school’s schedule

    • Develops/coordinates cohorts across the schools to create community (Latina Achievement and Success, Black Achievement and Success, Asian and Pacific Islander Achievement and Success, Queer Achievement and Success, etc.) Advocates will facilitate the group they are most comfortable with

    • Maintains YW+A calendar on spreadsheet


    • Collects and enters data on student attendance and grades/graduation rates into spreadsheets


    • Administers Pre/Post program surveys, collects Pre/Post surveys; enters data


    • Coordinates logistics for activities, including refreshments, room location, AV set-up, reservations, etc.


    • Administers and collects any necessary field trip or participation permission slips

    • Timely and clear communication skills

    • Experience working with multicultural audiences and/or underrepresented youth

    • Eligible to work in the U.S.A

    • At least 18 years of age

    • Reliable form of transportation

    • Available during school, afterschool hours (to be arranged with high school site)

    • Available to attend bi-weekly staff meeting with Director and other specialists

    • Flexible work hours, avg. 6 – 12 hours/week

    • Current college student or college graduate

    • Fluent in English
