STEM E3 Virtual Summer Camp Supports Longmont Youth

YWCA Boulder County hosted its first Youth Who Code STEM E3 Virtual Summer Camp in July.  In partnership with Casa de la Esperanza and the City of Longmont Youth Center, YWCA offered a four-day, two-hours-per-day program that sent 21 young students of color on their journey to learn the fundamentals of coding.According to Director of Community Engagement and Equity, Shiquita Yarbrough, “We didn’t know how many students were going to participate, and even though it was summer time and the camp was virtual, they were engaged and excited for every session.”These students and more have been invited to the next STEM E3 Jam Session which will be taking place in partnership with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on October 19.YWCA Boulder County's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) E3 program is a hands-on, real-world program emphasizing education, employment and entrepreneurship (E3) for young women of color in 5th – 8th grades using STEM technology. This program strives to provide education opportunities, career exploration, and mentorship for young students of color interested in STEM fields.  For more information about hosting a Jam Session and opening STEM careers to young students of color, please contact Robyn Hazlitt at: rhazlitt@ywcaboulder.org.
