Building Community at Anderson Farms: YW+A’s Fall Field Trip

On Friday, October 25th, advocates, along with 26 students, came together at Anderson Farms for an afternoon of bonding, laughter, and a bit of adventure. This annual field trip helps build connections, create memories, and foster a sense of belonging among young women of color and LGBTQ+ students.

Gathered around a campfire, we roasted hot dogs and s’mores, shared stories, and got to know each other beyond the school walls. These moments helped break down barriers and allowed our students to connect with their mentors and peers on a personal level. Together, we explored the pumpkin patch, wandered through the corn maze, and even dared to tackle the haunted, "Terror in the Corn." Each activity brought a mix of excitement, courage, and teamwork that reminds the students that they are part of a community that truly supports them.

This field trip is an essential piece of what YW+A strives to achieve. We’re not just creating memories, we are building confidence, resilience, and trust these teenagers can carry with them in school and beyond. We are excited to carry this momentum into the rest of the school year, with more workshops, meetings, and activities that will inspire and uplift these amazing young women.
