Building Connections and Community

On December 14, 2023, several Young Women+ Achievement program students from Arapahoe Ridge and Centaurus High School visited the Denver Botanic Gardens’ signature show, Blossoms of Light. Immediately upon passing the entrance to the show, all the students began gasping in awe and enamored by the different light arrangements. Serenity stated, “This is so cool,” and her friend Kimberly added, “It is like a dream.”

There were a variety of different fixtures spread across the property, playing with shape and color. As the students walked around looking at the lights, they were able to build connections and memories with one another. After spending a couple of hours at the Gardens, everybody finished seeing all the displays, and we walked back towards the bus. All the students were buzzing with happiness for having attended. Laura and her cousin Sebastian, who are from Colombia, described how they had never seen anything like this back home and were so glad to have had the experience.
