Judges Announced for Last Dance

After 15 years, YWCA Boulder County will sunset its Dancing with Boulder Stars fundraiser with a final “Last Dance” on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Just like the hit TV show, local “stars” are paired with professional dance instructors as part of a dance competition to fundraise for YWCA Boulder County’s programs. Guests and viewers vote with their dollars to help their favorite dance pair win!

It wouldn’t be a dance competition without judges, and we have an incredible line up! We’re excited to introduce you to our 2024 Dancing with Boulder Stars judges:

Rico Changeux has choreographed and danced internationally on tour, in music videos, and in movies before starting Streetside Studios in Boulder more than 10 years ago.

Junie Joseph is an American attorney and politician serving as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives for the 10th district.

Vivian Kim is a Colorado dance educator, choreographer, performer, and CU Boulder graduate with a Master of Fine Arts degree for Performance and Choreography.

Rico Changeux

Rico has been teaching dance for more than 30 years. He danced professionally with legends like Michael Jackson, Usher, Prince, Britney Spears and Janet Jackson to name a few. Rico has choreographed and danced internationally on tour, in music videos, and in movies. After teaching at studios all over the world, he settled in Boulder and started Streetside Studios more than 10 years ago. Rico also runs the Storm Dance Company. Junie Joseph

Junie was elected in November of 2022 and serves as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives for the 10th district (Boulder, CO). Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, she immigrated to the United States when she was 14. Since then, she has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Florida and a Master of Arts in applied human rights from the University of York. While attending CU Boulder's School of Law, she ran for Boulder City Council as a first-time candidate and won. After spending four years on the city council, earning her Juris Doctorate from CU Boulder's School of Law, and starting her own family law firm, she ran her campaign for Colorado's House District 10 and won. She is now a freshman legislator, passing bills for tenant rights, child welfare rights, and environmental conservation.

 

Vivian Kim

Vivian is a Colorado dance educator, choreographer, and performer. She graduated from CU Boulder with her Master of Fine Arts degree for Performance and Choreography with a secondary emphasis in the Alexander Technique.  Vivian has had the pleasure of training and studying under Helanius J. Wilkins, Gesel Mason, Nada Diachenko, Rennie Harris, Dassy Lee and others.  Vivian utilizes techniques and stylization from Modern dance, House dance, and Hip Hop in her choreographic works.  She is on the Board of Directors for the Boulder Ballet and Mi Chantli Arts and Movement Sanctuary.  In 2020, she established VisKosity Dance Collective with creative partner Keith Haynes, MFA (instagram @viskositydanceco). Vivian has been invited as a guest artist to teach class, lecture, and set dance works at numerous universities.
